German electronic publication, Groove Magazin, is the source for the latest mix of the month with Oliver Hafenbauer the force behind this subtly crafted hour long performance.
Hafenbauer, who holds down a residency at Offenbach’s (Frankfurt) Robert Johnson club, manages the associated label Live at Robert Johnson incl A&R, and also his own imprint Die Orakel (The Oracle), is one of German electronic music’s creative forces.
This mix filters that creativity with tracklist that treads a vaguely house led path throughout, but with some surprising (but masterfully combined) selections to keep you firmly locked in throughout.
Hafenbauer offered his explanation on this recording:
“I think podcasts have an interesting requirement, between “listening to computer boxes” and “dancing” – in both disciplines the mix should work well.”
“Surprising turns were not planned directly but actually a logical consequence, if one tries to accommodate his current favorites from different genres in one hour.”
Although not tempted at this time to delve into production, indeed in his interview with Groove he admits “I’m just not a musician and I’m not particularly tech-savvy either”, I’d love to see what he’d put together based on his other artistic endeavours.

In the meantime, take a listen and let me know what you made of Oliver Hafenbauer’s Groove Magazin mix for April and May. Comment below, or get me in all the usual places.
