Following on from the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Freedom Park project has been kicked off.

Street artists including Dave the Chimp (creator of the skateboarding spray can; see video!) have been repainting original segments of the Berlin wall to be displayed in the city.

This idea is likely to gain more support than some previous repainting of the Berlin Wall. Many of the remaining murals on the East Side Gallery were painted over with a reworking of the original. In some cases a completely different, more popular, mural was painted over the original artwork. A renewed version of Leonid Brezhnev kissing East German leader Erich Honecker caused controversy, not least because no permission was sought from the original artists.
