Slacking with my shout for February’s mix of the month, but this one was worth the wait.
Martijn Deykers, best known as Martyn, leads his own label 3024 and was an instrumental figure in the dubstep scene that hit its peak during the mid to late 2000s. That said his own productions, and indeed record bag, wander between dubstep, house and techno creating a sound that’s inimitably his and invariably on point.
Hailing originally from Eindhoven, the move to Virginia in the USA coincided with the release of his 3rd studio album The Air Between Words in 2014, marking a departure from the heavier bass led Ghost People of 2010 – the album which initially turned me onto his work.
It was his latest mix with The Lot Radio show in Brooklyn that caught my ear – reminding me why I love his productions and mixes. This genre skipping hour long recording is classic Martyn, dropping grime after dubstep after house with the mood of the mix remaining typically atmospheric – and featuring
