Moscow’s Smol goes deep in the latest podcast, weaving together an hour of minimal and deep tech from his record bag.

Aleksander Ivanov traces his first foray into electronic music, as many of us do, in his adolescent years. At 19, Ivanov was presented with an opportunity to become a promoter of a club in what he describes as the “hinterland of Russia” – LED Club in Kirov.

It was a role that undoubtedly led him to his place in the DJ booth, as soon enough he was moving from promoting, to spinning the mix of house and techno he’d been working to organise for clubs in western Russia.

Now based in the capital, he spends his time playing out and presiding over the Double Selection parties in Kraftwerk Bar in Vinzavod, Moscow.

His mix for Urban Kultur is typical of his solid DJ style and track selection that impressed me when listening his mix for Deep MVMT. Smol digs deep within his collection to meld together tracks that make for another engaging hour long mix.
